Now, perhaps more than ever, outdoor spaces have become sanctuaries. The places we go to take a deep breath and relax. Comfort can be found on a deck, patio, poolside, rooftop, or simply under the shade of a favorite tree. Spring is the perfect time to start dreaming about refreshing your space (or creating a brand new one!) to live your best outdoor life.
Performance fabrics. They’re not all created equal.
Calico has been selling performance fabrics for more than 50 years. We know what makes a great performance fabric and offer over 1,500 indoor and outdoor fabrics. From the front porch to the backyard patio, we offer outdoor fabrics that are almost indistinguishable from indoor fabrics. Think colorful patterns, rich hands, and textures that are soft and comfy. Play with color and pattern.
Don’t shy away from bright colors and interesting designs on your outdoor furnishings. This is a great place to go bold! We love to mix patterns to create an eclectic look. Once you find your favorite patterned fabrics, use them to create outdoor pillows, cushion seating, or table accents to bring personality and style to your outdoor decor.
Work with what you have.
Not much outdoor furniture? Not a problem. Create large cushions or pillows in a variety of fade and stain-resistant performance fabrics. There is a wonderful selection of colors and patterns now available in these fabrics. Toss them on the ground or stack them on a bench.
Create vertical height with fabric panels.
One of our favorite outdoor decor ideas is to hang drapery panels on a deck, porch, or canopy. Outdoor panels instantly draw the eye upward and make a space feel pulled together and refined. Complementary cushions and pillows are nice to have nearby.
Dress up the dining area.
Create an outdoor tablecloth using a performance fabric that resists spills. Add colorful napkins, small vases with flowers and candles. Put a bar cart outside and fill a tub with ice so that guests can easily refill their drinks without having to run in and out of the house. Now you are ready to invite guests and fire up the grill!
Light it up!
Use strings of outdoor lights on the underside of covered porches or umbrellas. Tiki torches are dramatic when placed around the yard. The tree that shades you during the day can be enhanced at night by landscape lighting aimed up into the branches. Fire pits provide warmth and light…not to mention the ability to make s’mores!
