What is the ORC?  The One Room Challenge is a widely anticipated, online interior design event, that is held every April and October.  Linda Weinstein is the owner and creator of the ORC which began in 2011 as a motivational challenge with a small group of friends to finish one room.  Now in its 17th year and thousands of room transformations later, it has continued to grow in popularity.  Better Homes & Gardens is the official media partner for the ORC.

For each event, twenty design influencers are chosen to participate as Featured Designers.  Posts are shared weekly on social media to update readers on the progress they are making.  Anyone with a blog or Instagram account can join the challenge as a Guest Participant.  The result—social media is overflowing with images of renovation, professional advice to help with your own projects, inspiration, resources and beyond!  Calico was proud to be a sponsor of the Spring 2020 Challenge.

A Glass of Bovino
Alisa Bovino @aglassofbovino chose a main bathroom for her makeover.  Working with our East Hanover NJ Design Shop, Alisa selected Dareau-55 Indigo, for Roman Shades.  The trim Bronson-Citrine added a pop of color to the Flat Roman Shade.  The custom shower curtain in Linden-Sterling looks great against the gorgeous floor and shower tile.

Beth Diana Smith
This dining room designed by Beth Diana Smith @bethdianasmith is absolutely stunning!  We love how our fabric Imagine-Natural complements the curvy dining chairs.  It was a great fabric choice for this reupholstery project.

Deeply Southern Home
From the beginning of construction on her new home, Leslie Davis @deeplysouthernhome knew the open concept living/dining space would have amazing potential.  For the One Room Challenge, Leslie worked with the Calico Design Shop in Birmingham, AL to create draperies in Dynasty-Linen for the living room and added oil rubbed bronze hardware.  They are perfectly suited for this incredible space.

Design Maze
We love how Tim Lam @designmaze_tim transformed this sleek chaise.  The frame was reupholstered in Bale Mill Canvas-Oyster (a Ralph Lauren performance fabric) and beautifully accented with a faux-leather welt in Luciana-Russet.  The chaise is so stylish in this space and beckons you to relax and take in the view.

Kandrac & Kole
Interior designers Joann Kandrac and Kelly Kole @kandrackole needed to update the space being used for their “Inside Design with Kandrac & Kole” podcast studio.  What a transformation after paint and window treatments in Hotaru-50 Indigo!

Katrina Blair
When Katrini @thekatrinablair needed fabrics for her project, she made a visit to the Calico Design Shop in Sacramento.  She did an outstanding makeover on a cottage studio.  Tosho Stripe-Pewter is featured on Roman Shades while pillows in Klimt Gilding-Midnight (sorry….no longer available) and Magitha-Indigo look relaxing on the sofa.

Liz Kamarul
Liz @liz_kamarul wanted to add her own style to her 100+ year old home.  Her room choice was the kitchen.  Painting, removing molding over cabinets and adding new draperies were a few of the changes used to reflect her personality.  Since Liz didn’t have a Calico Design Shop near her home in New Orleans, she worked virtually with the Design Shop in Mt. Kisco, NY.  The luxurious velvet flat panel draperies in Floris Velvet-Henna added a wow factor to her windows.

Rambling Renovators
For her One Room Challenge, Jennifer Flores @ramblingreno decided on a chic coastal look for her basement.  In addition to fabrics for pillows in the sitting area, Calico was happy to provide Madaket Plaid-1 Ivory for her dining tablecloth.  We think she achieved her goal of a coastal vibe.

Renovation Husbands
Stephen and David @renovationhusbands chose to create a master suite in the Victorian home they have been renovating.  Our Design Shop in Natick, MA helped with Flat Roman shades in Heni-21 Charcoal for the bedroom.  They were the perfect choice to complement the style of this suite.

Studio Plum
Challenging windows?  Not for Calico.  When Rebecca Plumb @studioplumb needed help with her bedroom’s 12 ft. wall of windows, our Design Shop in Sacramento, CA was happy to help.  The Ripplefold style draperies in Floris Velvet-Vermillion that look amazing under the custom crown molding that was installed around the room.  Best of all, the draperies can be stacked to one side to let in the beautiful view of their property.

Thank you Linda Weinstein and Featured Designers for an enjoyable design journey this Spring!
