Craveworthy: The Candice Olson Collection at Calico

Traditional form meets modern design in fabrics and textures that create a sense of comfort and calm

Calico is introducing a third collection of Candice Olson fabrics for Kravet, a rich array of almost 150 styles—jacquard upholsteries, embroideries, tweedy textures and chenilles, velvets, versatile solids, sheers, and even prints!  Our customers love the light colors and neutral textures, many enhanced with a bit of shimmer and shine that Candice designs in her lines.

“The products I design are rooted in my signature fusion of traditional form, scale and proportion with the simplistic beauty and crispness of modern design. This marriage of contrasts—old and new, minimal and adorned, sleek and lustrous—is the secret to creating a look that is current yet timeless, fresh while still being familiar.”   - Candice Olson

A PEEK INTO THE DESIGN BEHIND THE DESIGNER

How do these remarkable fabrics actually come to life?  It all starts with a drawing, painted as in the archival patterns below, or today, more often created with a Computer Aided Design (CAD) program.  Kravet has one of the largest archives of textile designs in the world—and they are an endless source of inspiration for their design partners and their collections.

Each color in the drawings below represents a different weave or texture for the jacquard loom—not a color for the fabric.  In both of these upholstery fabrics, the nubby areas are grospoint weaves or uncut loops of yarn.  When cut in other places, they create a lush velvet pile.

CRYSTAL

Many of the fabrics in the Crystal family feature metallic embroidery, sequins, lustrous yarns, a hammered satin ground—even a snakeskin design!  These fabrics are nature-inspired and neutral in color, with rich textures and weave effects for visual interest.  Here they are in a room created by Candice:

(L to R) The embroidered metallic butterflies and vines of BATTEMENT in Buff make a statement at the windows.  MERVEILLE in Cream on the sofa has a variegated color warp for visual interest, a perfect background for pillows of HORIZONTE in Dune.

SEAMIST

The Seamist collection includes misty, barely-there blues and foggy greys.  Some are tinged with watery aqua tones to deep teal shades.  Home interiors in blues inspire calm, confidence and harmony—no wonder they’re so popular!

(L to R) POETIQUE in Seaglass, jacquard upholstery; DESLUMBRADA in Twilight, an embroidered print enhanced with metallic yarns; and the layered textures of TORSION in colors Seamist, Slate and Blush have a bit of shimmer from the addition of Lurex and ribbon yarns.

STARLIGHT

The Starlight color family includes deeper slate and tundra tones, freshened with frothy white textures.  Metallic and Lurex yarns in silver, mica and pearl add a lustrous quality to jacquard upholsteries, tweeds, bouclé textures, chenilles and embroideries.
